Welcome to St. Michael Charanga Parish, a Catholic community in the Diocese of Meru. Since our founding in 2011, we have been dedicated to serving the spiritual and developmental needs of our people in the unique and challenging environment of Kenya's Arid and Semi-Arid Lands.
We are a Catholic community in the Diocese of Meru, Kenya. Established in 2011 to serve growing pastoral needs, we are located in the arid, marginalized region of Tigania West, where we are committed to both evangelization and holistic human development.
St. Michael Charanga Parish was officially started in 2011 when it was carved from St. Mary Immaculate Limbine Parish to better serve the pastoral needs of the faithful. Our parish is located in Tigania West Sub-County in Meru, bordering Isiolo County. This area is an Arid and Semi-Arid Land (ASAL), characterized by adverse weather conditions such as strong winds, hot and dry weather, and a scarcity of water. The parish covers an expansive area of 223.70 square kilometers and includes twelve outstations, some very far from the main parish church. We serve a Catholic population of around 6,000 people within a wider population of approximately 50,000. Our work is based on a thirty-hectare piece of land generously donated by the local community, who welcomed the church to begin its work of evangelization and community-based projects.
