Future Projects

1

Acquisition of a school bus

The school currently struggles to attract and retain students, particularly in the early years, because younger children in preparatory classes must be brought to school by their parents. Given that most families live beyond one kilometer from the school and have limited means of transport, this has greatly limited enrollment, especially for children who are too young to walk long distances on their own. As a result, only a small number of families within close proximity can enroll their children. A school bus would be a game changer. It would enable the school to reach children from farther villages, ease the daily burden on parents, and ensure that even the youngest learners arrive safely and on time. This would significantly boost enrollment numbers, improve attendance, and make education more accessible to all children in the community, regardless of distance.

2

Electricity

Access to reliable electricity at St. Michael Charanga Parish remains a challenge. Electricity is essential to support both parish and school operations. It would enable lighting for classrooms and parish facilities, powering learning tools and communication systems, and ensuring that activities can continue safely in the evening and at night. Electricity is also a foundational requirement for other planned projects, such as a computer lab and security systems.

3

Water and maintenance of the borehole.

The area being semi-arid and with no piped water, the parish through the help of the diocese, had a borehole drilled that has been providing water to the parish and to the members of the community. We are however in need of servicing our water pump (the one we have should be replaced after every three to five years), buying or constructing reservoir tanks and proper piping. Through this, the parish farm will become more productive and we can have a water proper point where the members of community can get water with minimal wastage.

4

Classrooms to accommodate every year’s growth.

With the constant growth of our school, we will need at least one new classroom each year to accommodate this.

5

Dispensary

Health facilities in the area are very few and lack basic necessities. The most vulnerable in the community being women and children have a hard time accessing medical services. Children lack immunization, exposing them to lots of diseases. It is not unusual to see women deliver their babies on the road before getting to any hospital. In some unfortunate moments, mother and child may lose their lives especially where complications arise. Losing a life is heartbreaking especially if it could have been avoided. A facility serving the students, and the community especially women by having a maternity ward is a dream that I believe will be realized in the fullness of time. A health facility within the parish with proper medical equipment, health workers and drugs, will be a breath of fresh air to a community that has been drowning in this kind of misery for the longest time.

6

Computer lab and computers

In today’s digital world, computer literacy is no longer a luxury but a necessity. The children attending school at the parish have limited to no access to computers. A computer room equipped with functional computers would open up new learning opportunities, allowing the students to gain essential digital skills, access educational resources, and connect with global knowledge. This initiative would help bridge the digital divide and prepare these learners for a future where technology plays a central role in education and employment.

7

Fencing of the parish and school land to enhance security

To safeguard the parish and school land from encroachment, theft, and unauthorized access, there is a pressing need for proper fencing. A secure perimeter will create a safe environment for students and parishioners, protect existing and future infrastructure, and give the community peace of mind.

8

Guest House

Construction of a guest house to accommodate our visitors especially from our “twin” St. Stephen parish With ongoing partnerships such as the one with our “twin” parish, St. Stephen, the need for accommodation for visiting guests and missionaries has become increasingly important. Constructing a guest house will provide a hospitable and secure place for visitors to stay, enhancing collaboration and fellowship between parishes. It will also support visiting clergy, volunteers, and development partners who come to serve or offer support to the parish community.

9

Building of a sports ground for school children and the youth

A well-built sports ground would serve as a critical space for physical development, recreation, and community building. Currently, there is no proper facility for children or youth to engage in sports and physical activities. The creation of a sports ground would not only promote healthy lifestyles and discipline but also offer a constructive outlet for young people, keeping them away from harmful behaviors. It would foster community cohesion and give youth a sense of belonging and pride.
